Baby Jack's Room

When the ultrasound tech let it slip towards the end of our pregnancy that we were having a boy, first of all I was so excited.  I have always wondered what it would be like to have a little boy running around the house that looked like my husband (we're still out on the verdict of who he looks like). The second thing that came to mind was, what am I going to do with his nursery? I have all girl stuff and wasn't prepared for this because I really thought that we were going to be having another girl.

Having two girls already, I never realized how biased the stores are towards girl stuff! It blew me away! It seems that for every three or four racks of clothes there are for girls, there is only one for little boys. When it came to trying to find ideas for decorating a baby boy's nursery, a lot of the ideas were the generic blue with the common boy room themes, and I just wanted to do something a little different. After much searching around on the Internet and trying about what seemed like a thousand different wordings in the Google search bar (modern, unique, differnt and so forth), I came across the "Les Amis" collection from Michael Miller and loved the colors and the woodland creatures. My mother-in-law, bless her, makes a quilt for each of the grand kids and so I showed her the fabric and picture of a quilt online that I really liked, and she whipped this beautiful quilt up for baby Jack.

Now...I tend to lean towards traditional or country decorating and I never thought that I would paint a room in my house grey, but I was so inspired by the colors in the quilt, I thought why not just give it a try. I found a color called "Scream Machine" from the Disney paint collection at Wal-Mart and decided to dive in. I will admit that after painting a small spot on the wall to test it out, I panicked. I had just spent all that money on a gallon of paint and I wasn't a fan of the finished color. After some calming down and my MIL recommending to just paint a wall and see how I liked it, I did, and I really did love it. So what did I do? I painted the whole room and it looked great against the white trim and it wasn't overwhelming at all once the whole room was painted. For the wall art I got the idea off Pinterest. I bought some fabric fat quarters (18x22) from the collection and I stapled them onto some 10x10 canvases that I bought off Amazon. Super easy way to get custom wall art to match the room.

Here is the finished product and now it's time to move the little guy into his new sleeping space for some more room.

It all looks so nice! Fun to try a different color in a babe's room too. I bet the cutest part of the WHOLE room is the tiny little 'brudder' that would be curled up in that crib. You are a great mom!
