Kitchen Delights

I wanted to share with you some of my latest kitchen delights. I've been on a Pioneer Woman kick lately, and I've been trying out quite a few of her recipes. I guess I like her so much for her silly jokes, but much more for the kind of food she makes. She has to feed her hard working ranch hubby and kids just like I do, and she knows that some silly little salad or veggie dish just isn't going to do the job. I like how her cooking ranges from how to cook a simple roast to her latest post of Pork Chops with Pineapple Fried Rice, something a little different from the norm. Here are some of her recipes of her that I have tried recently, but silly me, I never take a picture.

  1. Broccoli-Cheese Soup- I just shredded some plain American cheese and added some ham....oh yum, and I'm not even a cooked broccoli fan.
  2. Pasta with Whiskey, Wine, and Mushrooms-I added some thin strips of cube steak to this and substituted chicken broth for the wine since we don't drink wine.
  3. Homemade Ranch Dressing- the best!
  4. Cinnamon Rolls- I already have a go-to bread recipe and I know how to make cinnamon rolls so I didn't follow those parts of the recipe. I just used the icing recipe and oh man was it yummy!
  5.
I have plenty more of her recipes printed off that I want to try and I got get first cookbook for Christmas, and I can't wait to get her new cookbook when it comes out later this month.

Next I want to show you a couple new fancy kitchen toys I got:

This is another goodie that I got for Christmas. Its the Giada De Laurentiis 6-qt. Cast-Iron Dutch Oven from Target and it has been the best cast iron ever! I can cook small things in it, soups, fry yummies, or even use it in the oven to slow cook. What I like about it is that the inside is enamel coated so I don't have to oil/season after each use or whenever things start to stick to the pan. It was definitely worth the investment in my eyes and a LOT cheaper than the Le Creuset dutch ovens.

This pretty little thing is more for show than anything, but I couldn't resist sharing it with you. This is old fashioned butter churn. My MIL has one that I believe was her MIL's, and I fell in love with it. They're just so neat looking! I've been searching on and off for a few years now and all the ones that I had found online were priced crazy high and were in a lot worse condition. I found this one at the local antique store for a good price plus everything in the store was 25% off so it made it an even sweeter deal. I'm hoping that someday I'll get to make some home made butter with the kiddos.

Last of all are these fun little bits of color. These are wall decals that I got at the local Target store to add just a pop of color and fun to my otherwise boring kitchen. You just slap them up where ever you want, peel them off, and move them around with out damage to your paint or walls. They make me happy during this winter of ours. The actual colors of the stickers are a lot darker than what they appear on the Target website.

We have only a few ewes left to lamb and the heifers have been sorted into the calving bunches so we should be seeing the first calf pretty soon. We've been having some beautiful weather and it looks like the rest of the week is supposed to be in the mid 50's up to 60*. Can you believe that?? Not me! I think I'll be taking advantage of the clothes line and soaking up some sun while I can. Enjoy the rest of the week and have a great weekend!

Friend, I may have told you before, but I do read each & every single post of yours. I have been slack in commenting...and this is what I may or may not have said, but my mind has turned to mush. My babies are growing though...so maybe some of my mind will return...maybe?

Anyway,I'm glad to hear of your nod of approval to PW's recipes, so that I don't waste time on ones that are punky! :) Plus, I LOVE that red pot...LOVE....love!!!

Hope your kids are healthy and you're doing well...hoping some of the sunshine we've had is making it's way to you! All the best!
