Fall Things

For us northern folk our growing days are coming to an end and its time to start cleaning up the yard and putting things away and time to get ready for the winter ahead. This week I'm focusing on giving the yard its last manicure of the year.

  • Mow
  • Weedwack
  • Mulch the strawberries and raspberries
  • Pull up the last of the potatoes and carrots
  • Cut down the iris
  • Clean the grill
  • Put away mower
  • Roll up hoses and put away
  • Till up the garden beds so they're ready for next year
After that, it's going to be time to start my fall cleaning around the house. With baby coming in January, I think I'm slipping into nesting mode a little early and trying to get things done before I get too big with little one and don't want or can't do much. We've been spending a lot of time reorganizing our house around to make room for Hazel to have her own room so that baby can have the nursery when the time comes. I figure the more we get adjusted to being moved around now, the less stressful it will be when another member is added into the household.

This week we're pulling the plug on the pacifier. I'm a little nervous that we're going to have some long nights and short naps during the day since those are the only times she gets it, but it has to be done. Wish us luck on this long week!

Last of all I just wanted to share a few goodies with all of you. I saw a neat soap pump made from an old Ball canning jar in my Country Living magazine and couldn't wait to give it a try.  I ordered the pump here and found some directions on how to put it together here. Here are a few side notes.

 1. I didn't cut the top off from a plastic bottle like she did because I ordered a special collar ring on the website where I got the pump (very bottom of page on the site). Also they make you order a minimum of 6 collars.

2. I didn't use epoxy because my collar ring fit in the drilled hole nice and snug.

With a little drilling from hubs and FIL, and some assembly on my part, here is the finished product.

                                                                   Isn't it cute!!

The next thing I wanted to share with you are some really neat books that I recently ordered.

The book in the center is the new book by Aimee Ray called, Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection: 400+ Easy Embroidery Designs. She has some fun and funky embroidery in here that I can't wait to give a try. The book comes with a disc that has over 400 embroidery patterns on it for you to print off and some projects for you to try.  I love her artwork, its so much more colorful and creative than anything I could come up with!

The two books on the outside are a couple of books by Repro Depot. One is the Folk Collection and the other is the Flora Collection and each book comes with a disc that has over 200 vintage-inspired patterns that you can print off and use for cards, crafts, decoupage, stationery and so on. The possibilities are endless! All you have to do is pop in the disc and print off the pattern you want and use it for whatever you like. I think I'm going to try to decoupage some light switch covers pretty soon. Oh how fun!

Happy Fall Everyone!

On pulling the plug.
When we decided to pull the pacifier plug years ago we waited till ds was sleeping (with the paci) and made a small cut w/scissors in the end. We let him keep it and he soon quit using it on his own. The first morning though he brought it to us to show us how "the monster bit it". It was so funny how he reasoned that out. : )
It was amazing how well this worked.

I love that soap pump--I have been wanting to try one! What great books you've ordered too.

How did things go with taking away that sucky sue? I'm nervous and need to do the same thing! How old was your little girl when you decided to take it away?

I'm really hoping you're feeling well and you can get some of things you want to done before your bub comes. Hooray for babies!
