I Want It So!

Spring fever is what I have!! I dream of my yard green and nicely trimmed, wildflowers coming up by the handfuls, and a garden full of yummy treats (and magically weed free of course). We're on our way to getting there, but mother nature is pushing the planting season back a little longer for the time being.

The garden is too wet to till and it looks like we have more rain/snow in the forecast for the days to come so I won't be getting too much done there any time soon. I've had to settle with planting who knows how many wildflower seeds to reduce my fever for the time being. I planted them a couple weeks ago and they're already sprouting. At least I'm hoping that its wildflowers sprouting and now a whole bunch of weeds.

Before we moved out here to the ranch, I had never thought about planting wildflowers. Instead, we would go to the nursery  and buy petunias, allysum, and whatever else struck my fancy while there. I still buy petunias and a couple other things to put in pots around the house, but one lesson I learned from my MIL was, plant what grows in your area. And on this dry and windy prairie where we live, it has to be one tough cookie to make it.  Wildflowers were the answer!

My MIL's large wildflower garden in her backyard is something I look forward to every year. Its like a little oasis all to herself. Its a riot of colors at all times during the summer, because when somethings done for the season, another thing is there to replace it. I planted one for myself this year and hopefully it fills in nicely. Its also an easy filler for my tulip and iris beds after they've done their blooming for the year, and all that is left is their greenery.

Today, I also drew up my plans for the garden so that when it is time to plant, I can just get right out there and get to business. This will be the basics for now, but I might squeeze in some peas and peppers somewhere as well. I can't wait!
