Caking

Now that winter time is here and there's not really anything for the animals to graze, we feed them some hay and cake every morning. Cake is a food made up of compacted grain or alfalfa in the shape of a pellet about the size of your finger. This morning Adam and I took our little one out to cake the animals and here are some of our pics.

We've been having a thick fog lately and its been leaving some heavy frost on everything. Its pretty to look at, but its not good when its like this on fences or the power lines. It really weighs things down and can cause loss of power and down fences.

These are some of our herd bulls enjoying their cake this morning.

Our 3 year old heifers

I LOVE seeing the cows with a piece of hay sticking out of their mouth. The gesture makes them look so human sometimes, as if they're saying, "Howdy!"

Adam and Hazel feeding the sheep. Some of our older ewes will come right up to you and eat the cake right out of your hand!
