A Mini-Vacation

Now that our annual bull sale is over, the hubby starts to make bull delivery trips to the surrounding states dropping bulls off here and there all along the way. I was lucky enough to get the chance to go with him on his trip last week when he went up to the Forsyth, MT area. Even though we live in Montana I haven't been that far north and so it was a mini-vacation to me.

(Tounge River)

All along the way there were many abandoned houses and log cabins that really started me thinking about what life back in this 1800's would have been like. What would it have been like to be a homesteader trying to make it out here in this barren country with no moden day convienciences. No tractors, plows, vehicles to run to the store, no washer and dryer, no t.v. or video games to entertain the kids. All you had was eachother and your hopes and dreams. Its amazing to think what these people had to do daily to make their lives possible.

For me history isn't about memorizing dates or events. To me it is more about the people that lived and died through these times. What stories to they have to tell?  When I see an old abandoned house like this, I wonder who the people were that decided to come out here to homestead and make a life for themselves and families. What were their dreams and did they come true or did they have to pack up and move on to better places? I guess we'll probably never know.

Hubby thinks that this might be an old grain bin. We're not sure though.

I couldn't resist taking this picture of a lady walking her pigs down the sidewalk.

Jaimi,

I finally found you! I thought your bloggie was private, but your dear mother-in-love posted it and I found my way. I'll be back often to visit! BTW, I get to see pics of your little sweetness and she is a doll!
Blessings,
Joyce
